We invite our members and all data enthusiasts to register for the upcoming webinar hosted by the data.europa academy — your knowledge hub for open data.
About the Webinar
As part of the webinar series Open Data, Academia, and Ethics, this session explores how emerging technologies are reshaping research practices, scientific integrity, and public trust.
In this second episode, the focus turns to the responsible use of AI-generated and synthetic data in research. While these data sources create new opportunities for innovation, they also raise important questions around reliability, bias, transparency, and ethical use.
Speakers
Thomas Lampert — Professor and former Chair of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, University of Strasbourg
Thomas will introduce synthetic and AI-generated data from a technical and analytical perspective, explaining how these forms of data are created and used in practice. Drawing on examples from medical imaging and remote sensing, he will highlight both the opportunities and the challenges these technologies present for research and decision-making.
Ella Hafermalz — Associate Professor of Work and Technology, KIN, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Ella will examine how researchers and institutions can distinguish between real and synthetic data, and how responsible practices can help prevent misuse while supporting transparency and trust in research.
The webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with both speakers.
